It holds a special place in my heart - My wife and I visited Monopoli (where we were engaged) and the Amalfi Coast before spending our honeymoon in Venice. We continue to visit Italy, loving how we feel nestled into the culture, enjoying coastal walks and Italian cuisine. These photographs are memories and also dreams. I shot this particular photograph just an hour before a massive storm overtook the coast! My wife and I were having a seafood lunch near the beach, about 3,000 stone steps down the hillside from where I took this photo. As you can see in the image, it was a stunningly perfect day. We were so happy! Suddenly, the wind began thrashing the beach as rain blew sideways. People were taking cover in shops and restaurants. It was an excellent day for umbrella vendors, braving the weather to make a profit. We paid ten Euros for a purple child-size umbrella. Unfortunately, it lasted only ten minutes before the wind turned into a mangled mess. We didnt care. We were in love, laughing as we ran back up the stone stairs to the top of the hillside to where I shot this photo just an hour earlier. Soaking wet, out of breath, and filled with excitement, we held hands as we looked down the mountain at the stairs we had just conquered.
