KLIUN(IVAN KLIUN) (Estimated Price Range: US$ 35,000 to US$ 45,000+) Now HIGHLY REDUCED to WAY BELOW MARKET VALUE !!! IVAN VASIELIVICH KLIUN (or Kliunkov) was born in Bolshiye Gorky near KIEV in 1873 in what was the former SOVIET UNION (USSR). He first studied at an academy in Kiev and later in Warsaw, in Poland. After his studies he moved to Moscow in 1900 where he met Russian Suprematist founder and leader, Kazimir Malevich. In 1910 Kliun participated for the first time in the Moscow Salon. He soon became a great friend and supporter of Malevich. Ivan Kliun was very much interested in Symbolism and the Suprematist experiments of Malevich and other avant-garde trends, and wrote a Suprematist Manifesto with Malevich and Menkov. Abstract art had its breakthrough in Moscow with the 0.10 Exhibition in 1915, where, alongside Kliun, artists such as Malevich, Tatlin, Nadezhda Udalzova, Ljubov Popova and Ivan Puni also took part. Here, for the first time, Suprematist paintings were exhibited. Kliun's creations were present in the main Russian Futurist exhibitions such as Tramway V and 0.10, The Last Futurist Exhibition of Paintings in which Malevich first showed a Suprematist work. At this point, from 1915 until 1919, Kliun fully embraced the movement promoted by Malevich. Ivan Kliun's own Suprematist works were compositions in small format featuring multiple geometric shapes against a white background. Kliun took part in different exhibitions of the Suprematists who had significant influence on the European artistic movements De Stijl and Bauhaus. Kliun was also greatly influenced by French Cubism and Italian Futurism, later taking on a Puristic style in the mid-1920s onwards. From 1917 to 1921 Kliun was Head of the Central Exhibition Bureau of the Fine Arts Department of Narkompros. From 1918 to 1921 he taught at the VKhUTEMAS in Moscow. Ivan Kliun died in 1942 or 1943, in Moscow. He is considered one of the great pioneers of NON-OBJECTIVE art. THE PAINTING This work is a rare early-1920s original RUSSIAN SUPREMATIST OIL PAINTING, executed in MULTIPLE COLORS, on a WHITE BACKGROUND, painted on a single WOOD PANEL. The image depicts MULTI-COLORED GEOMETRIC ABSTRACT SHAPES. It is a SIGNED, ORIGINAL, ABSTRACT PAINTING. This is most definitely an ORIGINAL SIGNED PAINTING by hand and NOT a litho, print or copy of any kind. The wood panel measures: 13 7/8" x 8 1/4" (35.25 cm x 21 cm). The painting is SIGNED, in the lower-right, in Cyrillic: I. Kliun. DATED beside the signature: 1921, and on the VERSO, again: 1921. (And countersigned again there as well.) PLEASE NOTE: Under eBay's rules and regulations we have to sell this original painting as in the manner of, or in the style of Ivan Kliun, as there were no official or recognized COAs or gallery documents attached when we acquired the work. Hence, although all aspects feel correct, it must be offered for sale on eBay, as is, in Ivan Kliun's style. In GOOD CONDITION. One light, small, splintered edge-area on lower-left edge. 3 tiny pin holes on very edges only. All can be covered by a matte when newly re-framed, if desired; or can be simply mounted as a "float" to show the entire wood panel. A TERRIFIC example of Ivan Kliun's work from the early-20th century period, a very rare painting and highly-collectible.
