Description: Photographs throughout Ad: Offered for auction from a recent Estate sale is the following A BEAUTIFUL JAMES M. DAVIS SATURN SCOPE EARLY WOOD STEREOVIEWER AS PHOTOS WILL SHOW IN AD BELOW The James M. Davis Stereoscope or as impressed on the back of the stereoscope “SATURNSCOPE” stereoviewer includes 4 stereoviews as photos will show. The James M. Davis Saturnscope has the following impressed on the back: THE SATURNSCOPE, JAMES M. DAVIS, PHILADELPHIA USA, SOLE AGENT - PATENTED, OCT. 15, 1895/FEB 1, 1896. A list of countries or abbreviations are also impressed as follows B.S.G.D.G., U.S.A. GREAT BRITAIN, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, CANADA, FRANCE AND GERMANY. The patent date on the viewer handle is July 24, 1883. The Davis Saturnscope is complete and functional. Considering the stereoviewer is 120 plus years old it is in very good and functional condition. There are a couple of nicks on the ends of the hood which will show up in photos. A crack is present on the main support bar which connects to the hood. However everything is tight. What I believe is that it was created when the plugs on the end of the base were inserted into the back of the hood hole’s and glued. I believe that the hole was not perfectly aligned and over time the crack was created due to stress. My reason for this is that when viewing the back there appears to be two places when glue was applied and on the right side the glue was on the right of the crack. I do want to note everything is tight. The lenses are wonderful. The finish is beautiful as my many photos show. It is received from estate sale completely functional with all parts present and in very good condition for a 120 or so years old item. Viewing a 3d image with this stereoviewer is very gratifying. It is one of the nicer ones that I have had the opportunity to purchase at auction. It does exhibit a few nicks and dings as would be expected for an item this old as noted above. I have taken numerous photos in direct sunlight, indoors and with varying backgrounds, please review for condition. Below additional information on James M. Davis and photographs.
