James Robison John McKay This Is My Story This Is My Song Christian Sermon Vinyl 2-LP Record Gatefold VG+ Vinyl / Jacket Grade Per Goldmine Standard: VG+ / VG+ This is a story . . . this is a song. Rather, thisis a story about a story ... a story about a song. It's the story of Janies and John.Of James Robison, a dynamic youngevangelist . . . and of John McKay, a radiantevangelistic singer. It's the story of the exciting ministry of theJames Robison Evangelistic Association.Of how it began. Of how it grows. At first, there was James. Bom into a brokenhome. Taken under the wing of a Baptist ministerand his wife, Rev. and Mrs. H. D. Hale ofPasadena, Texas, until he was 5. Returned to livewith his mother and moved from place to placeuntil he was 15. Then miraculously claimed byChrist and, at 18, called to be an evangelisticpreacher.Touched by the hand of God... burdened forthe lost, James began preaching church revivalswhile still in college, entering every door ofopportunity the Lord opened to him.God moved swiftly to broaden James' vision.. . to increase his zeal for reaching the lost ... toextend his opportunities for evangelism. Many of the church revivals turned intocommunitywide crusades. Soon James began tothink and dream in terms of sweeping evangelisticcampaigns whose impact would transform livesthroughout an entire area.At this point, John McKay enters the story.John, raised by his grandparents, had beenseeking God's will for his life since he was ateenager. He turned his back on a promisingathletic career . . . then on a career in secularmusic. Remembering his early call, he surrenderedto the evangelistic music ministry.John s and James 'paths soon crossed... andboth decided one chilly February night in 1965that God wanted them to combine their spiritualgifts in an evangelistic partnership. The James Robison Evangelistic Associationwas bom.And God blessed the association's ministrywith breathtaking growth. He filled hugestadiums with spiritually hungry people — 8,000,10,000,20,000 and more each night. He wroughtlife-changing commitments in the hearts ofmultitudes ... as many as 4,000 and above in asingle crusade. And He provided more crusadeopportunites than the association could schedule ina year. Crusade dates soon had to be set one tothree years ahead. The dynamic, undiluted preaching of James . . . theinspirational music and singing of John . . . the huge crowds . . . themassive responses to the claims of Christ. If this were all one saw, hewould miss the heart of the story . . . the heartbeat of the song.Behind those stirring messages from J ames lie hours of deepBible study, meditation and prayer. Also, a love and personalconcern for the spiritual condition of people. This love and concern become most evident, perhaps, in James'personal ministry with youth. He has a remarkable rapport withyoung people. He communicates with them. He counsels them. Hepresents Christ to them. Whether in crowds of thousands, or just ahandful, they open their hearts to James ’ teaching and preaching.Like James’ "story” (the Gospel), John’s song is the result ofmuch preparation. He prepares himself, through prayer and hardwork, to prepare others to meet Christ. He selects the music, composes the special arrangements, organizes the choirs. With organist Rick Jackson and pianist RebaWare, he creates the spiritual atmosphere in which the Lord does Hissaving work. And teaming with Jeanne Rogers, the team’s soprano soloist, hepresents the story . . . in song. From the beginning of their crusade ministry, James and Johnset strengthening the local body of believers, the local church, as theirmajor goal. Ultimately, they believed, the winning of the world toChrist is a task not for the evangelist nor the pastor but the individualChristian. In pursuit of this goal, they expanded the scope of theJames Robison Evangelistic Association's ministry. It came toinclude record albums, cassette messages, printed materials suchas booklets and tracts, and a Christian book store. BrookhavenRetreat, for young people and church groups, a quiet, lakesideretreat to which pastors and lay persons can withdraw forspiritual renewal. All designed to strengthen the local church bybuilding up the spiritual life of the believer. Two of the most important new ministries have been the Schoolof Maximum Evangelism and the Christian Life Seminar. MaximumEvangelism Schools are organized in conjunction with each majorcrusade for both pastors and laymen within a radius of 100 miles ofthe crusade. The Christian Life Seminar is aimed at following eachcrusade with a week-long period of group instruction in the principlesof Christian living for those who have made decisions. To tell the story, to sing the song to as manypeople as possible, James and John determined touse every tool of communication available. Andthe most effective tool for reaching large numbers,of course, is television.Starting with only four stations in 1970, theTV ministry instantly drew an encouragingresponse from the viewing audience. This ministryconsisted of a 30-minute programming featuringinspirational singing and Christian testimonies. Itwas built around the powerful gospel messages ofJames. In only a few years the program, "JamesRobison Presents,” was appearing on 62 stationseach week in 22 states. Many nationally knownpersonalities were giving their testimonies on theprogram. Now millions are being reached with thestory . . . and with the song.As you see, the ministry of the James RobisonEvangelistic Association grew in a few shortyearsfrom reaching hundreds in church revivals toreaching untold millions through areawidecrusades, a tape ministry, a print ministry andtelevision. In that time James preached to morethan seven million personally, to TV audiencesestimated at 20 million a week. And God continued to broaden and expand the vision ofJames and John. Visions of greater works He plans toperform through them in the future. Visions of an expandedTV ministry that would put God’s message on the air everyweek in the 50 top viewing areas of America. Visions of amore intense crusade ministry. Visions of an outreach to othercountries of the world. What is the explanation for this amazing growth, forthese exciting visions? James put it in these words: "It can beexplained only in the terms of God’s power to transformlives.”This is not the end of the story.Because it’s a story about a story . . . about a song.God’s story and God’s song.Praising our Savior ... all the age long.Bom in a charity ward of a Houston hospital, JamesRobison was taken into the home of Rev. and Mrs. H. D.Hale of Pasadena, Texas, and lived with the Baptist ministerand his wife until he was 5 years old. His mother had run anewspaper ad offering her baby to a concerned couple whowould care for him, because her alcoholic husband haddeserted her and she had no means to provide for her son. When James was 5, however, his mother reclaimed him.He lived a transient boyhood in Austin, Texas, never in oneplace for very long. During a visit with the Hales when hewas 15, he accepted Christ as Savior. He returned to live with the Hales and finished highschool at Pasadena, where he lettered two years in football. At the age of 18, he was called to be an evangelisticpreacher. He has since preached more than 400 crusadesacross America and spoken to more than 7 million peopleface to face. In excess of250,000 have come to Christ throughhis ministry.John McKay was bom in Turkey, Texas, and raised byhis grandparents. The family moved to Fort Worth whenJohn was 9. He became a star football player and acceptedan athletic scholarship from Texas Christian University. Butthe challenge of sports failed to fulfill.John had felt a call to Christian service as a singer whenhe was only 15. Remembering that call, he gave up hisathletic career and studied music at North Texas StateUniversity. There his talent won him a scholarship at theJulliard School. He turned down the offer, however, electingto enter the church music field.Ashe pursued this calling, singing and directing musicin revivals across the country, he served in some meetings atwhich James Robison preached. The fellowship they formedduring these meetings led the two, in 1965, to unite theirministries and form an evangelistic partnership.
