John Dashwood Synopsis:Northanger Abbey (2007) A young woman's penchant for sensational Gothic novels leads to misunderstandings in the matters of the heart. Emma (2009) Love knows no boundaries. And neither does she. Mansfield Park (2007) The film is about a young girl who is sent by her poor mother to live with wealthy relatives at their Mansfield estate. By the age of eighteen, the young woman falls in love with her sensitive cousin who is studying to be a clergyman. Her feelings for him prevent her from accepting a marriage proposal from a much wealthier suitor. Pride and Prejudice (1995) Jane Austen's classic novel about the prejudice that occurred between the 19th century classes and the pride which would keep lovers apart. Persuasion (2007) Persuasion is the newest adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel of the same name published in 1818.Anne (Sally Hawkins) fell deeply in love with handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth (Rupert Penry-Jones) at the age of nineteen. Sense and Sensibility (1981) Two sisters of opposing temperaments find love and some heartbreak in Jane Austen's 18th century classic. Northanger Abbey (2007) Catherine Morland is taken to Bath, England by the wealthy Mr. and Mrs. Allen and introduces her to Georgian society. There she meets the social-climbing Isabella and John Thorpe, the handsome Henry Tilney and elegant Eleanor Tilney. After making an impression on Henry and Eleanor's father, the Tilneys invite her to their country mansion, Northanger Abbey. Catherine falls in love with Henry but realizes that love can be fickle and that money - and not just love - is an important consideration in the marriage business. The story is based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name, 'Northanger Abbey.' Emma (2009) Austen's classic comic novel follows the story of the 'handsome, clever and rich' Emma Woodhouse. Dominating the small provincial world of Highbury, Emma believes she is a skilled matchmaker and repeatedly attempts to pair up her friends and acquaintances. Nothing delights her more than meddling in the love lives of others. But when she takes protege Harriet Smith under her wing, her interference has a detrimental effect. Brought up sharply against the folly of her own immaturity, the consequent crisis and her bitter regrets are brought to a happy resolution in a sharp and sparkling comedy of self-deceit and self-discovery. Mansfield Park (2007) At age 10, Fanny Price is sent by her destitute mother to live with her aunt and uncle, Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram. As a child she was often made to feel that she was the poor relation but by the time she reaches 18, and in the absence of her uncle who leaves on a business trip for an extended period, she begins to enjoy herself. When Henry Crawford and his sister Mary become neighbors to the Bertrams, opportunities abound. Edmond Bertram falls in love with Mary but she wants to marry a man with money, not someone destined to life as a clergyman. Meanwhile, Fanny's love for her cousin Edmond prevents her from accepting Mr. Crawford's proposal of marriage. Pride and Prejudice (1995) In this lavish adaptation of Jane Austen's classical romance, Elizabeth Bennett is a strong-willed yet sensible young woman whose father is a gentleman with a quite modest estate and whose uncle suffers in status from being a businessman in Cheapside. She has four sisters, a long-suffering but loving father, and a mother anxious to marry them to wealthy young gentlemen. At a local ball, she encounters one such wealthy young man, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy - and as Mr. Darcy is arrogant, cold and rude, it is hatred at first sight. As her older sister Jane falls in love with Mr. Darcy's best friend Mr. Bingley, and her youngest sister Lydia flirts with anyone in a military uniform, Lizzie finds herself fighting off the attentions of the unctuous Mr. Collins and quite taken by the charming Mr. Wickham - who also happens to be an enemy of Mr. Darcy. However, as the characters succumb in many ways to pride and prejudice, Lizzie learns that not all is quite as it seems...and that Mr. Darcy might not be so disagreeable after all. Persuasion (2007) Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones star in this adaptation of the Jane Austin classic about a lovelorn woman who receives a second chance for true happiness. Anne Elliot was just nineteen when she fell hopelessly in love with dashing naval officer Frederick Wentworth, so when her family attempted to convince her that she was making a terrible mistake the smitten young woman hastily broke off her engagement. That decision has haunted her ever since, and despite the fact that nearly a decade has passed not a day goes by that Anne doesn't long for Frederick's embrace. Now, eight years later, Frederick has returned a highly decorated, and extremely wealthy military man. As every eligible woman in Anne's district swoons over the handsome and successful naval officer, the crestfallen young woman still holds out hope that Frederick will somehow find it in his heart to look beyond her youthful indecision, and give her a second shot at true love. Sense and Sensibility (1981) This story is based on the 1811 novel by Jane Austen of self discovery during personal traumatic times. After the death of their father the Dashwoods, a prominent British family, fall on extremely hard times. It is up the Elinor (Irene Richard) and Marianne (Tracey Childs) to find suitable husbands in wealth and social standing within British Society to restore the family fortune. This task is complicated when they are forced out of their estate and take up residence in a country home belonging to a family friend. While dealing with the legal aspects of her father's death Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars (Bosco Hogan) who is engaged to Lucy Steele (Julia Chambers), while the flirtatious Marianne pursues John Willoughby (Peter Woodward), a cad and scoundrel, while ignoring the affectionate attentions of Colonel Brandon (Robert Swann). Through it all Marianne and Elinor discover that singularly neither sense nor sensibility is enough, they need both. Northanger Abbey (2007) When Catherine Morland is given the opportunity to stay with the childless Allen family in Bath, she is hoping for an adventure of the type she has been reading in novels. Soon introduced to society, she meets Isabella Thorpe and her brother John, a good friend of her own brother, James. She also meets Henry Tilney, a handsome young man from a good family and his sister, Eleanor. Invited to visit the Tilney estate, Northanger Abbey, she has thoughts of romance but soon learns that status, class and money are all equally important when it comes to matters of the heart. Emma (2009) Emma Woodhouse seems to be perfectly content, a loving father whom she cares for, friends, and a home. But Emma has a terrible habit - matchmaking. She cannot resist finding suitors for her friends, most of all Harriet Smith. Emma is desperate for Harriet to find happiness, but every suitor she finds for her friend ends up attracted to Emma herself. But is Emma so focused on Harriet's happiness that she is not considering her
