Aizu lacquerware (Aizu-nuri in Japanese) is lacquerware originated and made in the Aizu region of Fukushima prefecture, started when lacquer trees were planted during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The ware is created from sturdy wood base then coated with lacquer and finished with a final gloss coat making it water durable. The distinct character of the Aizu Lacquer is the extent usage of the auspicious motifs, which is part of the Aizu culture. Unused with original box.
