Description: 1947 Kagome Toys Special カゴメ 玩具 特製 Western Movie Bromide Cards 西部劇 プロマイド Choose the Menkos You Want! Get Quantity Discounts Kagome Toys' movie cards special issue made in 1947 in Occupied Japan. Due to the emergency timing of this issue, the cards were roughly printed and crudely cut shortly after World War II in Occupied Japan. These menko cards are blank-back. Those being offered are "pack fresh" (near mint to mint) from the Kagome "taba" (hanging bundle) we opened decades ago. That taba is shown in the initial scans. The taba is labeled with Japanese characters only, using both kanji and katakana. The characters on front read 西部劇 プロマイド ("seibu geki buromaido"), which roughly translates as "Western Movie Bromides." The taba back shows Kagome's logo, a star with カゴメ (Kagome) inside and 玩具 (omoucha, i.e. "Toys") below. We note that many in the United States misread the Japanese phrase "玩具" character-by-character as two separate words ("gan" ("玩") and "gu" ("具")). The Japanese read them together as the phrase "omoucha" ("玩具"). At the sides of the logo are the Kanji characters 特 and 製 which combined form the word 特製 (tokusei) which translates to "Special." The Japanese on the back of the taba thus translates as "Kagome Toys Special." Each card is approximately 44 x 66 mm in size. The newest movie pictured is "My Darling Clementine," the 1946 American movie starring Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp. "My Darling Clementine" was released in Japan on August 12, 1947. As seen in the scans of the individual varieties, the different movie cards include: "Dragon Tiger" ドラゴン タイガー ( Doragon taigā) "Heavenly Dog" (Ashura's Tengu) 天狗 阿修羅 (Tengu Ashura) "My Darling Clementine" トム少年 (Tomu shōnen , "Tom Boy"), 闘決の野茫 (roughly Field of Duel Fighting) "Ogon Bat" 黄金 バット (Ōgon Batto, literally Golden Bat), with Gary Cooper "Ogon Bat" 黄金 バット (Ōgon Batto, literally Golden Bat), the Superhero by himself "The Sea Hawk" シーホーク (Shīhōku), starring Errol Flynn Get a discount and save on shipping costs by buying more than one within a day.
