His painted bronze, Savarin Can (1960), is depicted on front. American painter, sculptor and printmaker Jasper Johns (b. 1930) best known for his painting Flag (1954-55) his work is often described as Neo-Dadaist. He is also thought of as a pop artist as his pieces often include images from popular culture. He created famous sculptures of ale cans, light bulbs, flashlights and a coffee can containing brushes. In 1998 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York bought Johns painting White Flag (1955) at an estimated $20,000,000. In 2006 private collectors Anne and Kenneth Griffin bought his False Start (1959) piece for $80,000,000, which made it the most expensive painting by a living artist. Johns creates very few pieces in a year if at all, so his works are exceptionally rare and difficult to acquire. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1990 and on February 15, 2011he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Fine condition.
