Close inspection suggests that a few little blemishes have been very competently filled-in by a conservator. As with Grant's memoirs, this set was sold by subscription and offered in at least four bindings (cloth, sheep, half morocco, and full morocco), and the publisher's full morocco binding was naturally the most expensive, and subsequently the least common. In fact, we have found the publisher's half morocco binding to be considerably more common by comparison. Slightly shy of a fine set, but absolutely gift-quality.
