Description: Very scarce vintage 8" x 10", black and white, glossy, single weight photograph of Jeremy Brett signed by the actor. Brett is seen here in a tense moment as Sherlock Holmes with Edward Hardwicke flanking him (as Dr. Watson). We believe this photo was signed during the time of the stage production of THE SECRET OF SHERLOCK HOLMES in 1988 at London's Wyndham Theatre as this image was used extensively for the publicity of that show. The signature is in a black vintage fine tip pen. There is a small bit of uneven ink adhesion in the first letter of the autograph where Brett seems to have started with a scratchy pen. Many Sherlockians consider his portrayal of the fictional detective as definitive. His career spanned from stage, to television and film, to Shakespeare and musical theatre. Brett died in 1995 at age 61 and his authentic autograph on anything related to Sherlock Holmes is highly sought after. There have not been many in recent years as Sherlock that have come to market that have actually appeared convincing as coming from his hand. This one is a treasure!
