Description: This is a rare piece of sheet music for the song "MISSISSIPI" (sic) adapted from "Ol' Man River" from the landmark JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "SHOW BOAT" for the French market. (The Original Broadway production opened December 27th, 1927 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and ran for 575 performances. The Original French production would open March 15th, 1929 at the Theatre du Chatelet and run for 115 performances.) ..... This masterwork by JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II remains one of the greatest of all musicals and possibly the greatest musical theatre score to date. The story starts in the 1880's on one of the many American riverboats that featured traveling shows.
