Description: Up for sale are two Japanese-made commercial copies of the USAF jet pilot survival knife. They feature 5" blades with stacked leather handles and a blued finish. Knives like this were widely used by US service personnel in Vietnam who wanted a knife like it, but weren't in a position to be issued one. They smelled strongly of jet fuel when I received them. Make of that what you will. One knife is stamped "SPORTSWORLD JAPAN" on the ricasso and has a threaded pommel. It is the better knife of the two condition-wise displaying very nice bluing and only light sharpening. The other is unmarked and has a peened pommel. It has large areas of rust and pitting on the blade. However it seems to have a factory edge, though it is rather dull. Both have loose guards due to shrinkage of the leather handles with age. The sheaths are made in the style of the early version, the one without the reinforcing plate on the tip. They are in poor condition. The leather is dry, and the flap for the sharpening stone pocket is broken on one of them (neither knife comes with a sharpening stone). The lacing for tying the sheath to equipment is dry and unusable, and will be included in a plastic bag along with other broken components. They would be most suitable for taking apart and using as patterns to make new ones, however.
