Thorpe won numerous gold medals at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, but the draconian bylaws of the Amateur Athletic Union resulted in Thorpe's hard-earned medals being stripped. Thorpe has signed this black and white photograph in blue pen and inscribed "1950" in addition to his signature.
