Description: Oil painting in the manner of J.J. Henner (French 1829-1905). “Woman in Red” or “St. Fabiola,” died 27 December AD 399. She as a Roman noble who renounced the world under St. Jerome to become an ascetic. She is the patron saint of divorced people, difficult marriages, victims of abuse, and widows. The original painting was completed in 1885 and was lost in 1912, but it was copied by numerous artists in the intervening years before the original was lost. The painting is done on board with a signature present at the lower right corner. The image is well executed and in a vintage gold frame (perhaps original). The overall dimensions of the framed piece are 11 ¼” x 13 ¼”. A nice copy of a famous work now lost for more than 100 years. Please ask questions.
