Some spots of light soil to margins of some plates, and more moderate soil along fore edge of plate preceeding page 57 with light bumping to edge of plate. Rising from abject poverty in childhood, to having King Ludwig I of Bavaria as a patron, Wilhelm von Kaulbach became best known for his murals in Munich. Associated with the German Romantic movement, Kaulbach was also a noted book illustrator, and created illustrations for the works of Goethe, Shakespeare, Schiller, and also the Gospels.
