Description: The Blue Range, Framed Watercolour from the Estate of the Artist. A beautiful original watercolour on paper by John Flexmore (1911 - 2004). The picture shows the Blue Hills with clumps of trees in front, a paddock of grass in the foreground. Signed lower left, “John Flexmore ’76.” The picture is set in a gallery frame behind protective glass, with a double-mount of acid free paper, and sealed at the rear. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas. Size: the painted area measures about 26.5 x 36cm, including frame is 52 x 58cm, unpacked weight is about 2.4Kg. Condition: the picture is in very good vintage condition, the colours are strong, vivid and vibrant, no fading. The frame and mount are excellent. More works by John Flexmore.
