Description: This is a lot of 2- custom 12" figures commemorating the early American history regarding early explorer Captain John Smith (approx birth-1580 - death 1631) soldier, explorer, colonial governor, admiral of New England, and author with Native American Pocahontas (approx birth-1596- death 1617). Pocahontas (born Amonute- also known as Matoaka) was the daughter of Powhatan the main chief of the Powhatan Native American people. These people settled in the area that would be modern day Virginia. Captain John Smith was exploring the area with a group of settlers intent on building a settlement. Smith ran into problems with his group early, many with the idea to overthrow his leadership. He told the settlers that from this point forward "if you don't work, you don't eat". Things changed and the settlers started working together. There are conflicting stories (even from Smith's own writings) as to how and when John Smith met Pocahontas. Here is the most popular, well known version. Smith was captured early on while exploring the area. Smith's captors took him before Chief Powhatan. Two large stones were brought out and Smith's head placed upon them. Warriors stood by to bash his head in. Before Powhatan could give the word Pocahontas ran out and laid her head on top of Smith's head, She pleaded for Smith's life to be spared. Chief Powhatan spared the life of John Smith. There are many parts to this well known story. Captain John Smith and Pocahontas are very interesting figures in American history. Although this figure lot does not look exactly like Captain John Smith and Pocahontas there is a bit of a resemblance. PLEASE NOTE- the John Snith figure is fairly poseable so it seems a little looser that some less poseable figures and the hands are not ideal but do hold things fairly well. Both figures display well. stands included. This figure lot would make a nice addition to any collection. sold as is. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
