Description: Josef Riedl Royal Vienna Style Red & Gold Death of King Lear Charger Circa 1890-1910 Nice antique porcelain charger. Nicely decorated in the Royal Vienna style with a square central Celtic scene depicting the Death of King Lear. The square is framed in gold gilt beading, with a gold gilt circle with gold gilt beading and raised gold scrollwork. The border of the plate is red with raised gold gilt roses, scrollwork, and gold net/lattice overlay. Inside each diamond of the net or lattice are small white enameled beads. Marked on the reverse with an underglaze blue beehive over Austria. This mark was used by Josef Riedl for Royal Vienna style pieces used between 1890 and 1910. Has some wear to the gilding, mostly along the edge and to some of the high points of the raised gilding, and a small 5/8 inch tight crack extending off the end that is mostly visible from the back. No other chips or cracks. Measures approximately 11 3/4 inches wide x 1 7/8 inches tall. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
