Here’s the history of these comic pinback button pins:Beginning around 1943, the Kellogg’s Company inserted a give-away collectible in the form of small tin litho pinback buttons into specially marked boxes of Kellogg’s PEP Cereal. In 1945 the first comic characters series was issued. New series were added periodically over the next two years until a total of 86 different comic characters appeared. Someone in my father’s family collected these pins out of PEP Cereal boxes almost 80 years ago! My father being the youngest of six kids was most likely the one who collected them. They were stored away in my grandma’s attic only to be discovered several years later.
