Description: 3 Inch Diameter Army Chief of Staff Badge. Not the common much smaller General Staff ID badge of the same design. This style jumbo Chief of Staff Badge has not been worn since the 1930's and was only worn by one individual, the US Army Chief of Staff. There are many photos of General MacArthur wearing one - known as the "Lilly Pad." As I understand it, when General Eric Shinseki became Army Chief of Staff in 1999, he attempted to have this badge re-introduced for wear by the Army Chief of Staff. His efforts were not successful and this never happened. However, the insignia manufacturer, Ira Green Inc went ahead of manufactured a number of them back then. This example is one of them and is of extremely high quality. It's hallmarked with the Ira Green Inc code of G23. Really nice enamel with no damage. It's a really impressive item that would make for a great display.
