At the 2002 World Championships in Perth, Australia, Mr. Carroll was Ireland’s head referee. Mr. Carroll has been a tremendous asset to the Ireland Lacrosse program both as a referee and supporter. During the program’s exhibition tour to Dublin and Limerick in 2003, Jim conducted clinics on lacrosse rules interpretation to the many interested men, women and youth that attended. Mr. Carroll has been involved with lacrosse officiating for over 35 years. He has worked lacrosse games on every level: youth, high school, college and international. He has served as the President of the New Jersey Interscholastic Lacrosse Officials’ Association and also served the NJILOA as the Rules and Mechanics Interpreter. From 2000 to 2005, he served as a Governor of the US Lacrosse Men’s Division Officials’ Council. From 2001 to 2005, he served as the Officials’ Representative for District III of the College Officials’ Council. He was inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1998. Mr. Carroll was inducted into the LaSalle Academy Hall of Fame in 1999. He was awarded the National Intercollegiate Lacrosse Official’s Association “Frenchy Julien Award” in 2000. In 2004, two Irish-American men with long and very distinguished careers in lacrosse, Coach Richie Moran and Referee Jim Carroll formally chartered the IRISH LACROSSE FOUNDATION. They had already been providing coaching, officiating and athletic traing assistance for Ireland's men's teams in the World Lacrosse Championship. In the summer of 2010, they newly formed, Dublin based, Ireleand Lacrosse Organisation replaced the Foundation as the Ntional Govering Body for lacrosse in Ireland, and continues the effort to grow at all levels in Ireland.
