Description: You will receive unrooted cuttings, quantity of your choosing, each approximately 8” long, from our Katuk shrubs growing in sunny FL. Home grown naturally using regenerative methods with lots of love and zero chemicals or pesticides. You will receive fresh unrooted cuttings, just like those in photos. The cuttings will be green or a mixture of green and semi hardwood depending on availability at the time of your order. These cuttings are cut fresh to order, the same day I ship them to you. I strip most of the leaves off and the bottoms will be wrapped with wet paper towels to retain moisture and packaged with great care for safe shipping. I will include propagation advice. The success rate for katuk cuttings rooting is around 70% so you can expect 2 or 3 to root out of 4 cuttings. Growing Info & TipsThe Katuk shrub (Sauropus androgynous) also known as Sweet Leaf, Tropical Asparagus or Hạt bồ ngót grows to around 6ft and loves the heat and humidity of zones 9a-11. It’s very hardy and low maintenance but I have found that it does prefer some partial shade over full sun here in Florida. It flowers in the spring and fall with small flowers on the underside of the leaves, where the fruit develops. I really love having this growing in the garden as it’s packed full of goodness, is green year around, and you can enjoy using the leaves, flowers and fruit. Care & growing advice will be included with your shipment. The typical success rate for katuk cuttings rooting is around 70% so you can expect 2 or 3 cuttings to root out of 4 cuttings, or 5 to 6 cuttings to root out of 8 cuttings. Please put the cuttings in small glass of water as soon as possible upon arrival. I recommend propagating them in water. Simply put the cuttings in a mason jar or clear glass with water until they are a quarter to halfway submerged. Keep the jar in a sunny area and change the water often. Be patient. You will start to see new growth sprouting from the cuttings first (can take a couple of weeks) and then a few weeks later roots will begin to form. Wait until you have a decent amount of roots before transferring to soil. When transplanting them in soil, I recommend putting them in pots first, keep them in the shade, and watered until they are more established & then you can up pot or transfer to the ground. You can also opt to propagate the cuttings directly in the soil (instead of in water), and if you chose to do that I would suggest a natural rooting hormone to help them along. Taste and PreparationThe leaves are easily harvested year around and can be enjoyed in moderation either raw or cooked. They complement any salad, stew, curry, stir-fry, pesto or other traditional Southeast Asian recipes. The young shoots can be enjoyed cooked like asparagus. The berries/pea fruits can be enjoyed raw or cooked and have a nice mild pea and nut taste to them. Please do your own research before consuming. Please Note: All of my cuttings are fresh and viable. Growing plants is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes it’s not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the cuttings, however because I am not there to plant them, I cannot be responsible for rooting failure due to improper planting or climate conditions etc. I do include a detailed note with planting advice with your order to help ensure your success. Shipping of Cuttings: I ship my cuttings via the Postal Service, USPS, as a First Class package with tracking. I will freshly cut the cuttings on the same day that i ship them to you. I will package them in a moist paper towel with great care to ensure safe delivery to you. These are fresh cuttings that will need to be planted upon their arrival to you. Due to regulations, I cannot ship this item to AZ, CA, HI & PR. If your shipping address is to any of these states your order will be cancelled.
