Description: K&W 20 inch doll From Germany, Excellent Condition Antique Composition SERIOUSLY REDUCED PRICE ON DECEMBER 5, 2024. MOTIVATED TO SELL!This doll is marked in 2 ways. Behind her head it there is a marking that looks like this: K&WW298/11[there a turtle (I think) in a diamond shapeGERMANYAnd on the left side of her back there is a stamp of a logo in maroon ink that has a circle within a circle that says Made in GermanyK & WSo, all you doll aficionados know that K&W means Koenig & Wernicke. And because her hair is sort of gooey at the back and around the edges, I think her head is made of celluloid, and that would be on brand for K&W between 1911 and 1935, which is when they were in business and made this doll. Also, her eyes DO open and close, but you have to make them do it by hand. They do not open and close by themselves. The eye problem and gooiness around her hair are almost certainly due to celluloid, but when I look at her face, I kind of think it might be composite. It is certainly not porcelain. The rest of her body and all its parts certainly ARE composite. Her legs are loose but they are totally hanging in there. Her arms are NOT loose. I pick her up like a real baby, because her head is totally loose. It's attached, but very likely to fall to the side. I can't find another doll like this one online. I've never in all my fairly long life seen a composite baby doll with all its fingers! This doll was incredibly well taken-care-of; Both to play with and to store. She was wrapped carefully in a blanket. I left at least part of this silk or rayon pajama outfit on her for some of the photos. By the way look at these fabulous and original (I presume) sox and leather booties!! Unbelievable. Her booties and her hands in pristine condition alone might be worth the starting auction price. When she's sitting down, she is 14 or 15 inches tall. and I clock her length at 20 or 21 inches. I think her hair may be real hair? Is that possible? She came to me with this net on her hair, so I didn't take it off. I hope she ends up with someone who know how to clean and care for her This is a very special and rare doll.
