Description: Roman Republic silver denarius, moneyer L. Valerius Flaccus, 108-107 B.C., Sear(2000 ed.) -183, R.S.C.-11, 18-19 mm, 3.7 gm. The obverse shows a winged and draped bust of Victory to the right, with a star below her chin. The reverse shows Mars walking to the left, carrying a spear and a trophy, "L. VALERI. FLACCI", at the left side, and a flamen's cap in front of him, and a grain ear behind him. Both sides are toned a silvery to light brownish gray in the fields, with some of the raised parts of the designs showing brighter silver color. On the obverse, on the cheek of Victory is a scrape that starts near edge of her mouth, then crosses her cheek, skips a small gap, and then shows again at the edge of her wing and goes to right at the edge of the rim.
