Description: A large French carriage clock made by Japy Freres in the early 1900s. This two train, 8 day clock striking a gong on the hour/half and offered in lovely condition and good working order. Includes a double-ended key contemporary to the clock. The clock movement was serviced at the start of this month and is running strongly and keeping good time from its original lever platform escapement. The gong is struck once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour. The lacqered brass case is bright/shiny with only minor wear to the finish. The visible part of the porcelain dial is excellent whilst most of the glasses are bevel-edged and perfect. There are a couple of small corner chips to the pane in the back. Japy Freres was a very well regarded maker of the Victorian era and one of the early pioneers of carriage clock production though their name is often more keenly associated with mantel clocks. The Japy mark is to be seen on the dial with this model marked s24 on the back of the movement. This clock offered for sale BUY IT NOW... Weighs 1.6kg before wrapping.
