Description: We live on the island of Sado in the Sea of Japan. It is situated such that it gets the warm summer currents and also the winter ones, both teaming with fish. Of course, fishing is an ancient and modern way of life here. Before plastics and plastic floats which are used today, fishermen used handblown glass floats for their nets. Sado is famous for the bigger ones especially. Now that they are not used you can still find them in antique stores and outside peoples houses. They are now very much antiques, old old glass and are popular among collectors, designers and maritime lovers. They make great garden ornaments or as decorations in homes, restaurants etc. Each float has its own character, scars and stories. Some are embossed with a makers mark, some not. Some are bubbly or have ripples and can come in an array of colours, especially cotemporary ones. All of ours are genuine handblown working floats, which have survived the harshest winter seas and have then been retired.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This one is a beauty. I would say it is a clear float with a sapphire blue seal, however in certain lights the whole float has a blue hue. I have tried to capture the true colour of the seal in various lights. It is very approximately 125cm round / 50 inches including the net. Free EMS or Courier shipping.Safely packed.Non smoking home.Feel free to message with any queries. All the best,Japantiquity.
