They are entirely hand carved out of wood, with a dark red and gilt lacquer finish. Each one has a larger foo dog, one with two smaller foo dogs climbing up the front paws, and one with one climbing up a paw and one under a paw. Each larger foo dog also has two smaller foo dogs on the sides of their backs, plus there is one on all four sides of the bases. Each of the larger foo dogs has a ball in it's mouth that moves around, but does not come out. The larger foo dogs are over 12" tall, and the bases are just under 6" tall. The overall condition is pretty good for their age, with few flaws from damage, and most flaws due to the wood drying out over the years and separating. This is mostly seen around the bases, where the wood has separated in spots and the lacquer is chipping off. Their weights are 10 lbs. 6.5 oz. and 9 lbs. 8 oz.
