Description: An interesting and rare large antique oil on canvas Russian Soviet Impressionism painting by a well listed Alexei Grigorievich Varlamov, born 1920 in Kostroma, lived and worked in Moscow. Participated in multiple art exhibits. Works present in many major collections in Russia and around the world. The painting in question is a monumental impressionistic style work with a portrait of a young seductive gypsy dancer, very unusual and progressive style for early 60s in the socialist realism dominated Soviet Union. The sitter is wearing a ruffled Spanish style red skirt, her hair are adorned by a red rose. Likely doing the famous seductive Carmen Spanish dance! Spanish see-through shawl in her left arm exposing her arms and shoulders! Gorgeous! Bright vivid beautiful colors with the wide brush strokes. The work is signed in the lover right corner, also signed, titled and dated in Cyrillic on the back. Truly a museum quality piece! The painting is in generally good vintage condition with no evidence of restoration. Minor paint loss. Comes on a stretcher but unframed. Size 38 1/2" x 30 1/2" or 98 cm x 77 cm. The painting was originally acquired from the artist's estate in Moscow in 1990s. Other works from this artist's estate are being listed concurrently. Comes from a large private collection of Russian and Soviet Art. Shipping charges include full insurance. Add a map to your own listings. FREE Trial!
