DESCRIPTION:Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely fantastic and I mean truly fantastic, incredibly well-preserved, late 19th century American folk art, New England primitive, antique, hand decorated, gold gilt paint stenciled, reddish-brown painted, pine wooden trinket/jewelry box with hinged lid. This distinctive, regal New England artifact was discovered in a southwest New Hampshire early estate, in the Connecticut river valley and on the New Hampshire/Vermont state line. The box has box-joined corner construction and has a naturally darkened, oxidized painted finish, remaining dry and matte and not being lacquered over. There's no noticeable surface or structural damage to the box and the inside is lined with old, plain paper, long ago glued to the box's interior sidewalls. The bottom of the box is unpainted. The gold gilt stenciling features the owner's name 'Madge' emblazoned on the front facia of the box in enamel paint accompanied by a floral motif. All exterior sidewalls are paint decorated, as is the interior, wire hinged wooden lid. Absolutely magnificent. A great piece of American folk art. To literally die for. CONDITION: Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
