An attractive copy in a handsome binding. Aucassin and Nicolette is a 13th century French medieval chantefable (a song-story, or an adventure tale told in prose and verse) about a pair of lovers, Aucaussin and Nicolette, who persevere through ill fate and misfortune to achieve happiness together. Additionally, this volume includes Amabel and Amoris, which similarly tells of a love that prevails in spite of seemingly insurmountable odds. Both stories employ traditional motifs with satirical twists and are illustrated with engravings by the author's sister Clemence after drawings by his friend Paul Woodroffe.
