Description: This is a compilation of Classical through Late Romantic pieces originally recorded between 1905 and 1913, captured in 1963 high-fidelity. The original recordings, in some cases played by the composers themselves, were made using inventor Edwin Welte's "recording piano" in a process described in detail in the accompanying booklet. In this well-preserved 3-record box set, you can hear Claude Debussy perform his own "La plus que lente," Camille Saint-Saëns play his "Gavotte in F, Op. 90, No. 3," Gabriel Fauré perform his "Barcarolle in A Minor, Op. 26," just to name a few, exactly the way they sounded live more than a century ago!The booklet also gives a brief history of the piano and its virtuosos, a family tree of piano dynasties, and profiles of both the composers and the artists who play their works on this album. This box set makes a great gift for pianists, classical music buffs, audio engineering enthusiasts, music historians, and anyone who loves beautiful piano music. Album has been stored vertically in a stereo cabinet out of direct sunlight, in climate-controlled, smoke-free homes since it was obtained from the collection of a record buff in the 1980's. Record Grading: (EX) All record surfaces are clean and glossy. Two sides were played in their entirety for quality assurance, including Side 1 which has a small, visible scratch but did not skip when played.
