The Lenox Washington Wakefield fine china pattern has an interesting backstory. It was designed in 1927 using salt glazed pottery fragments excavated at Wakefield Plantation, George Washington’s boyhood home. Royalties were paid from the sales of the pattern to help underwrite the cost of restoration of the historic site. The design consists of an embossed basket weave rim. It is undecorated. Furthermore, it is a thinner and whiter color than the china produced by Lenox after World War II. It captures and reflects light beautifully. It is marked with the early Lenox Green Wreath Mark.
