Description: 'La Visite Pastorale' 1881 by Léon-Augustin L'Hermitte; 1844 -1925, French painter and etcher of the late nineteenth century, Leon Lhermitte was a student of Lecocq de Boisbourdran. He first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1864 and was quickly acclaimed. Many awards and titles were bestowed upon Lhermitte during his career. This etching has retained its excellent colouring, bright and unfaded, in black ink with very fine detail and intaglio ink lines, the image measuring 18 cm x 22 cm (7 x 8½ ins.) within a strong platemark and impression. Printed on a wove paper sheet size 22 cm x 31 cm (8½ x 12 ins.) with makers watermark.
