Description: The painting is in excellent condition and still has it's original Philippine mahogany strecher bars. From the look of the consrtuction and assembly the piece is from early on in his career. Simple mitered corners of the strecher with a single nail attaching the corners. The frugal use of the canvas, using just enough and on the one edge, none to spare.A quickly executed piece, with a sparce palette, loosely applied local ground/sky color. Sketched with modeling paste, adding dimension and interest. Then further drawn with umber colored brush atop, adding more precise details, finished byway a slap-dash riot of subtle tones of gray with few accents of raw sienna. The frame, a thrift store find originally purchased at a Hobby Lobby, also in very good condition. Although not an extraordinarily expensive frame, the manufacture had spent some time painting, silver leafing, and rubbing creating the final result. That in my opinion, compliments the painting quite nicely. Price shopping will show comparable frames will be about $100. usd or more. The majority of the frame is wood, the decorative leaf and fluted may be a composite of sort. Leonardo Zablan, "Cityscape" presumably Manila.
