Description: Les Vikings de la Guadeloupe – Boum Vacances LP French Import Rare CompasThese Guadeloupe groups are fantastic they swing in a jazz way yet keeping the Island feel. The Vikings of Guadeloupe is a music group from the Antilles created in Guadeloupe in 1966 by Fred Aucagos, guitarist Guy Jacquet, singer Ipomen Léauva and conductor Camille Sopran’n. The name of the group comes from the Pointe-à-Pitre football club managed by Fred Aucagos’ father, the Red Star, which was nicknamed “Red Star Diabla Les Vikings” by Casimir Letang, the host of the show La Gazette créole Inspired by jazz, funk, Elvis Presley, groups such as Earth, Wind and Fire or Kool and The Gang. Initially a dance band, the Creole big band signed with West Indian labels (Debs, Celini)before playing two concerts in June 1970 at the Halles de Paris (20,000 spectators, mainly the West Indian diaspora brought to metropolitan France by the Bumidom immigration policy), then going on a tour throughout metropolitan France, attracting 45,000 spectators. But despite the success, the end of the month was difficult and, in the mid-70s, the president of the department asked them to return to Guadeloupe and obtained a good contract for them with the Méridien hotel. So they returned. In 1978, bassist Pierre-Edouard Decimus left the group to found the group Kassav' with Jacob Desvarieux, Georges Décimus and Freddy Marshall The group split up and each continued on their own path.
