Description: Limoges Bernardaud B&Co Cake Plate w/6 Dessert Plates Pink Rose Gold 1914-1930's LIMOGES B&Co CAKE PLATE w/6 DESSERT PLATES PINK ROSE GARLAND 1914-1930's GOLD Elegant Decorative SET Consisting of Handled CAKE PLATE & 6 DESSERT PLATES from B&Co (Bernardaud & Company) Limoges, France, Pink Rose Blue Flowers FLORAL Garland w/Leaves, Double GOLD w/ GREEK KEY Design on Rims, circa 1914-1930's DESCRIPTION: This dessert set was designed in a very classic pattern with pink roses & smaller blue flowers to form a garland encircling the plate. There is a double line of gold around the rim decorated with the Greek Key design on the inner gold and a thin gold line on the verge. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The heavy gold trim on the reticulated handles is very rich looking and accents the embossing. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is excellent for its age. We can find no defects or minor damage. There is minor rubbing wear on some of the Greek Key design. Only one dessert plate has a tiny rim nick and an old very tight hairline radiating towards the middle of the plate. Otherwise, there are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. Overall, the gold trim is solid & glossy. See the photos. We included a close-ups to help you judge the condition. This is a set we would proudly use. DIMENSIONS: Handle to handle, the cake plate is 10 3/8" while its diameter is 9 3/4". Its height is 1 3/8" at the handles. The dessert plates have a diameter of 6 3/16" and a height of 3/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Remy Delinieres and P. Guery established a pottery in the 1860’s in Limoges, France. Delinieres became head of the company after 1879 and established a porcelain decorating shop in 1881 as part of the factory. In 1900, the company becomes Leon Bernardaud & Co. Leon & his father had worked for Delinieres and eventually purchased the company. Leon Bernardaud’s family continued his company which is still in operation. The marks on these are Mary Frank Gaston's green underglaze white ware mark #2 used 1914-1930's and red overglaze decorators mark #3 used 1900-1930's as cited in her Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition. This dates this set to the 1914-1930's time period. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
