Description: Flame Maples are an award-winning tree because of their remarkable color/beauty. They are hardy in zones 3 - 7 and like full or partial sun as well as moist, rich, well-drained soil. However, they are the most drought-tolerant of all maples. Flame maples grow up to 25' tall and 15' wide, making them an ideal landscape feature planted individually or as a high hedge, planted in a row. In spring, green leaves showcase white flowers and in fall, they are beautifully adorned with flaming red leaves, which gives them their name. The trees are currently over 6' tall and grow and average of 18" per year. They can handle a variety of soil conditions and are easy to grow since they are both cold hardy and drought-tolerant. Keep plants well-watered the first summer to help them get established. They are easy to transplant, are relatively pest-free and can even be grown as a container plant! Please note that maple trees can be invasive and this species is listed as such in Minnesota, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticutt and Wisconsin.
