Description: LMSR Locomotives - by H. C. Casserley. Following Volume One, this sequel again portrays a varied and representative selection of locomotives owned by the London Midland & Scottish Railway during its twenty five years of existence between the 1923 grouping and nationalisation in 1948. The main emphasis is on the older and less well-known classes, including many that were not included in the previous volume. The order of presentation in this case is by the commonly accepted Whyte wheel notation, both tender and tank engines being treated separately, and it has been found possible to include at least one representative of every type of wheel arrangement to be found on the LMS during this period, including such unusual rarities as a 4-4-4T, 2-6-oT and 2-4-4T. Also included are other classes that disappeared in the early days, many of them largely forgotten, or in many cases unknown to more recent generations of enthusiasts.
