Description: Lonely Old Woman Mock Insult Poem c. 1860's-70's Valentine hand-bill (Amusement leaf, wood engraved printed image with original stencil hand color, Valentines, broadsides, hand bills, novelty). Published c.1860-70's, New York by McLoughlin Brothers. Small wood engraved hand-bill/ broadside amusement leaf, with original hand color. Likely given on Valentines Day. All examples of the genre are scarce, any individual image like this one potentially rare/ unique. These all survive merely by chance. Likely originally sold individually by the sheet (as found here), either in stationary/ book shops or by colporteurs (traveling itinerant hawkers of chap books and pictorial and amusing paper sheets, often with hand color). Item is over 150 years old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition. Paper age worn, slight rubbing and uniform toning, numerous old fold lines (from having been inserted into an envelope to give or store), neat minor archival tape repairs on reverse (near edges), small pieces of poster stamps adhered to backside, remains overall clean and attractive as a fragile ephemeral survival. Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and overall is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detail and our best attempt to convey how this offering survives. Covers measures c. 9 1/2" H x 7 1/2" W. [R30170].
