Softcover, measures 9x12 inches, 103 pages with index, illustrated throughout in b&w. Little Egypt was a pre-Hollywood sex symbol. She was created by & personified the Western obsession for the exotic. She was born in an age when showmen, in deliberate Barnum-esque fashion, outdid each other to manipulate the press & mislead the public by fabricating larger-than-life personalities. One of the delights of the Chicago World fair Midway in 1893 was the dancing girls at the Egyptian theater. This led to a demand for similar performances across the country. One dancer. "Little Egypt", became notorious for her involvement in a scandal. Also interesting for the exhibits and history of the fair. Written by a dance teacher with an interest in Middle Eastern dance. Condition is EX, a couple of edge dents, otherwise like new.
