Description: Chatterbox magazine bound editions for 1872 and 1877, in very good condition. Bindings are good and inside pages are clean and unmarked, with the exception of a previous owner’s stamp on page 39 as shown in the last photo. Same stamp inked out on the inside front covers as shown. Some browning on pages but little to no foxing. Chatterbox was a well-known Victorian children’s magazine founded in 1866 by British clergyman John Erskine Clark. It was issued weekly, and cost a halfpenny. The magazine was aimed at older children, with a good level of reading ability. It's commonly found in the form of bound annuals as offered here. Chatterbox contained an interesting collection of short articles, short fiction, and serialized tales that would run for most or all of a given year. It was also renowned for its wonderful illustrations. Animal artist Harrison Weir was a frequent contributor to its pages, illustrating all sorts of animal anecdotes and fables. Every few pages in the magazine offered a full-page engraving, making Chatterbox an amazing art source for the Victorian era. Ships via Media Mail.
