Description: Two antique waste baskets, both hand painted with tole-style fruit designs. I believe these have a wood base and hardboard/ upson board sides. The bottom sounds like wood if you knock on it; the sides do not. Also there is some paint chipping on the top edges, and if you look closely at this it appears to be hardboard rather than wood. Both are black on the inside, with a faux leather (possibly some kind of paper or cardboard) gold-painted top and bottom borders. The fruit is painted on one side against a black background. The back of one wastebasket is a less-glossy black than the front; the other wastebasket is red on the back and on the bottom. There are imperfections which can be seen in the pics above: paint chips, particularly to the top edge; a few cracks in the finish, a visible join on one of the gold bands, and the person who painted the red-backed wastebasket accidentally got a brushstroke of black paint over the gold band. Each measures about 10.5" high. The red-bottomed one is the larger, measuring about 9.25" wide at the top and about 7.5" at the bottom, while the smaller all-black one is about 8" wide at the top and about 6.5" at the bottom.
