Houses light up and then change to different colors and also blink the colors. I put batteries in all to test them for pictures and then removed them. Great Christmas set up, still in original styrofoam, boxes and shipper. PLEASE NOTE-- The bottom of the Book Shop was glued on slightly askew when made. This makes it set slightly tilted because of the on/off switch. Not a big deal, put a little "snow" (or a penny) under the front and it will be level. Smoke free home.
