The group provides spaying, neutering, and preventive care to ensure each dog’s health and readiness for a new home. The organization is headquartered in Pearl River, Louisiana, near the Mississippi boarder. The town now known as Pearl River was originally called Halloo, named after the calls loggers would shout along the Pearl River. Established in 1859, Halloo began as a small railroad town at the intersection of the Northeastern, Poitevent, and Favre’s East Louisiana Railroads. In 1886, a train station was built, and soon after, Samuel Russ Poitevent opened the first general store in 1888. The town’s name changed several times—from Halloo to Pearl in 1878, then Pearlville in 1881, and finally Pearl River in 1888, after the train station’s name. On July 13, 1898, Pearl River’s 200 residents voted to petition the state for incorporation as the “Village of Pearl River.” Louisiana Governor Newton Crain Blanchard granted the request on May 24, 1906, with G.W. Fuller serving as the town’s first mayor. Over the next few decades, Pearl River gradually modernized, adding a courthouse in 1935 and a town hall in 1945. Pearl River Junior High opened in 1963 and was later converted into a police training academy in 2005. By 1964, Pearl River was officially designated a “town,” now home to approximately 2,500 residents. Good pre-owned condition with shelf wear. See photos for full details of condition.
