Description: This auction is for a Lovely & Large Antique Ironstone Polychrome Transferware Soup Plate or Deep Dish made in the mid 1800s by Francis Morley & Co. of Staffordshire England in the company’s Striking Aurora pattern. The pattern features a base decoration of Victorian Scrolls and Flowers in Bold Red Transferware highlighted with flourishes of green, blue and yellow hand applied under the glaze. The soup plate Displays Wonderfully and is in Very Good Condition, especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks. The colors are vivid and the glaze silky. There is fine under-the-glaze crazing that is common from pieces of this vintage and yellow paint from the manufacturing process on the backside. It does not detract from this Great Find. It measures a Large 10 3/8 inches across and is 1 3/4 inches tall. Pieces in this large size are very hard to come by, especially in this fine shape. The soup plate has a backstamp with the Aurora pattern name.
