Description: This snare drum is a rare find. It came from a local high school in Texas. The blue/olive badge has been torn off, but you can still see remnants of it. All hardware was removed and cleaned. The Imperial lugs had that black-powder that forms inside when the foam-insert disintegrates after time and have been thoroughly cleaned and polished. It has its original hoops, original snare wire and original “black-block” Ludwig logo throw-off. It was suggested by many that I keep this snare’s rich aged patina, instead of polishing it back to its original shiny finish. So I left it alone. The snare itself is very heavy & dense. I’ve outfitted this with a Evans coated w/ reverse dot and an Evans snare-side. The snare cord has been replaced. The regulator-knob for the internal muffle was missing, but has been outfitted with a proper-era replacement. All tension rods were extremely rusty, so those have also been replaced. I have tuned it up with a medium tension as well as super-high tension. The snare is very sensitive. My opinion is that it really works well with the higher tension. A rim-shot sounds like a shotgun. Loud, crisp and deafening. The internal muffle really helps with the overtones.
