Description: Measuring about 6-1/4" x 9-1/4", and 298 pages long, this hardback book is "The United Irishmen, Their Lives and Times" by Richard Robert Madden. Published in New York by the Catholic Publication Society of America, it is also described as "newly edited, with notes, bibliography and index by Vincent Fleming O'Reilly." It has a copyright date of 1916, and is stated to be No. 241 in a limited run of 1,000 known as the "Shamrock Edition." Although not stated on the title page, it shows as Volume IV on the spine, and the only two Irishmen listed in the table of Contents are Arthur O'Connor and Lord Edward Fitzgerald. We do not have any of the other volumes in the set. The book is in used and worn condition, with the binding still nice and tight, but the pages all wrinkled as if from previous exposure to water or dampness, and some light dampstaining at the bottom of some pages. Plus some spots and stains and typical light edge wear on the cover, and fading at the spine.
