Description: Kerfed linings or (also known as kerfing) are used to line the sides of an acoustic guitar or other instrument where the top or back are attached. The linings strengthen these joins and offer more surface area for the glue to hold. We offer three different profiles of kerfed linings for guitars and two for smaller instruments. It is mostly the personal choice of the luthier as all the profiles and timbers will work well, please see below for more details. - 8 pieces 16" (400mm) long - Enough to line 1-2 small instruments - Brazilian Mahogany - Highest quality kerfed linings made in the U.S.A. - Precision slotted - bends effortlessly by hand for easy application - Small rectangular profile - recommended for ukuleles and mandolins - 7/32" (5.5mm) thick - 6/26" (8mm) high The colour of timber used in the kerfed linings is a consideration and some luthiers like to use this to complement or contrast the colour of the inside of the body of the guitar. Mahogany is a little easier to work with that spruce as it is less susceptible to chipping. We offer five different profiles of kerfing in four different species of timber- Small Triangular - beveled shape used for mandolins, ukuleles, dulcimers and other small instruments Small Rectangular - low square profile used for mandolins, ukuleles, dulcimers and other small instruments Triangular - smallest kerfing for guitars, normally used for classical guitars and all steel string flattops. Standard - a little taller than triangular with a flat area above the bevel. The best size for archtop guitars and larger steel string flattops, can be used for all steel string flat top guitars. Reverse - reverse slotted so that the slotted side is glued to the guitar side for a cleaner look and more rigidity than other types of kerfing. Used for all types of guitars.
