He served as president of McGraw-Hill Publishing from 1928 to 1937. During his tenure as president, he helped create BusinessWeek magazine in 1929, the same year that McGraw-Hill stock was publicly traded for the first time.The first issue of The Business Week, the original title of BusinessWeek, was published on September 7, 1929, a mere seven weeks before the stock market crash that signaled the beginning of the Great Depression. Muir served as the editor-in-chief and president of Newsweek magazine between 1937 and 1959. He was responsible for changing the name of News-Week to Newsweek, and for introducing international editions. Muir was named honorary chairman of the board when the Washington Post Company bought the magazine in 1961. The typed letter is dated May 22, 1941, and is addressed to an autograph collector.
