Description: M A N G A N O A N F L U O R A P A T I T E Ham & Weeks Mine ( Carroll Co. ) Wakefield , N.H. Bid on this attractive specimen of yellow (SW) fluorescent manganoan fluorapatite from a new source of manganapatite for me. This mine location is mentioned in Manuel Robbin's book: FLUORESCENCE : GEMS AND MINERALS UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT This apatite fluorescent color is totally different then apatite from the Tamminen Mine (or matter of fact anywhere in the world) ! It's fluorescent yellow seems to be similar to some wollastonites & wernerites. Fluorescence is only short wave. In sunlight it is a light grey; not the green as one would expect. Collecting Ham - Weeks apatite is very difficult in daylight as it looks too much like grey quartz!!!!!! On numerous occasions I have picked up a great piece of alleged apatite and disappointingly; it's just another grey quartz! We have had an X.R.D. test done on this type of specimen found at Ham and Weeks Mine and it has been identified as Manganoan Fluorapatite . The fluorescent mineral you are bidding on is a solid chunk of Manganoan fluorapatite !
